How to Prepare Skin for Waxing

The first step to successful soft waxing is properly preparing your skin. Start by cleansing the area you'll be waxing to remove dirt, bacteria, or product buildup.

Use a high-quality cleanser like Starpil Pre-Wax Gel to leave skin clear and in its best condition for waxing. Exfoliating the skin a day or two before your wax can also help the wax adhere better and minimize irritation.

When you're ready to wax, ensure the skin is completely dry. Gently blotting the skin with a clean, dry cotton round is usually sufficient.

    Soft Wax Application Tips

First thing’s first: if you haven’t decided on the type of soft wax you want to use yet, consider your skin or hair type and what area you’ll be waxing. If you’re looking for an all-around wax for body waxing on normal skin types, Blue Soft Wax is the formula for you. If you have more sensitive skin or are waxing particularly delicate areas, Pink Soft Wax or Starsoft Soft Wax will lessen irritation or inflammation while waxing while providing great results.

If you have your soft wax ready to go, it’s time to start the application! After heating your wax in the appropriate soft wax warmer, use a small spatula to spread a thin, even layer of wax over the area. Make sure to apply it in the direction of hair growth for best results.

When to Apply Oil When Waxing

Though many people apply powder before waxing, the Starpil method doesn’t require this. Instead, we encourage applying oil to the application area pre-wax. Oil can help add moisture to the skin while also creating a barrier between the skin and wax to help reduce the possibility of lifting. Since soft wax is much stickier than hard wax, oil also helps reduce leftover residue.

The best time to apply oil is immediately before wax application. Using a clean cotton round, apply a small amount of oil to the area you’re going to wax. You only need a very small amount! Applying oil after your waxing process is finished can also hydrate skin and remove residue.

    How to Remove Soft Wax

After you’ve applied your soft wax, apply a waxing strip to the application area and smooth over the wax. Firmly grip the edge of the wax strip and pull it off in the opposite direction of hair growth in one quick, decisive motion.

For the best results, be sure to pull the strip as close to parallel to the skin as possible. Never pull directly up, as this can cause skin bruising or tearing.

    Post-Wax Care Tips

After removing the wax strip, take a moment to soothe the skin by immediately applying pressure to the freshly waxed area. Once you’ve finished waxing, apply the soothing Starpil Post-Wax Lotion to the area, followed by Starpil Post-Wax Oil. These products will moisturize and hydrate the skin while removing any wax residue. Shop our pre and post wax care bundle for the best products to use before and after waxing.

It's important to avoid touching, rubbing, or exfoliating the waxed area for 24 hours after your treatment. Wear loose, breathable clothing and avoid any activities that cause excess sweating or friction to the area. This will give the skin time to recover and help prevent ingrown hairs and irritation. If you’re concerned about ingrown hairs popping up, use Starpil’s Ingrown Hair Serum 24 hours post-wax to gently exfoliate the skin and dissolve ingrown hairs before they can form.
